Recognisable symbols are easy to remember where as abstract symbols have to be decoded first through association. A recognisable symbol in association with a name that is memorable form a bridge for your brain to recall your brandmark instantly.
The Zanda brand symbol is not abstract and is a stylised portrait based on the profile of the well-known marble sculpture of Alexander the Great at the Staatliche Glypothek museum in Munich, Germany.
This museum was commissioned by the Bavarian King Ludwig the First in the 19th century to house his collection of Greek and Roman sculptures.
First, a portrait of Alexander the Great’s profile was drawn in pencil.
It was then scanned, traced and further stylized so it will still read well when reduced significantly.
For a more dramatic effect the stylised line drawing was cropped inside a rectangle with round corners and reversed in white against a black background.
Further effects were digitally added to obtain a three dimensional image.
This included rendering different elements in separate layers using special effects such as radial and other vignettes.
The result is a stylised three-dimensional symbol that closely resembles the original marble sculpture of Alexander the Great in profile.
